Royal Beginnings

Thanks to Cindy Monroe, founder and CEO of Thirty-One Gifts, and the amazing company that she founded eight years ago, I have been able to build a business (www.thirtyoneblessings.com) and an income that allows me to stay home with my baby girl while still contributing to our family's finances. As well as provide some of life's little extras. One of the BIG perks this past year was that I was able to earn a $1600 Disney gift card, and this coming May am able to treat my family along with my parents and sister to a week at Walt Disney World.

So as we started the planning process, one of the things that I have had the most fun doing is designing a Disney wardrobe for my daughter Lily. Lily will be 22 months when we head down to see the Mouse so one of the main things that I've designed the collection around is comfort. Because the last thing a toddler needs during a long day at the park is an itchy princess dress. I found some beautiful soft cottons and knits on fabric.com and got to work.

And so my Everyday Princess collection was born. And since Lily's current favorite is Snow White, it was only fitting that I started with her. As I was doing my sketches I was searching Etsy for patterns to use as a starting point, and I quickly fell in love with the Milkmaid Dress from Tenderfeet Stitches and decided to use it as a base.

I stayed pretty true to the pattern (which was incredibly easy to sew by the way) but shortened it into a top and added a pleat in the front to make it a bit more princessy.

I sewed up a pair of ruffled jegging capris to go with it and am super excited with how the outfit turned out. It's always nice when things look in real life the way you imagined them in your head!

My full Everyday Princess collection will be available in my Etsy shop as soon as I finish up Lily's dresses to use as samples.

Here we go...

So I've often been encouraged to create a blog to share the various projects I create with family & friends and have just never really gotten around to it. But I was recently pointed towards a sewing contest that looks like it could be fun to enter, but it requires a blog to share your projects on. So here we go!

I am entering Mommy by Day Crafter by Night's so you think you can sew contest. It should be fun, we'll see what happens!
